Created for Him

This Week's Scripture & Reflection: Colossians 1:13-16

Certain scientific theories would have us to believe that all of creation, including our existence as human beings, came into existence at random. The Bible tells us otherwise. Not only did God create the world, but He did so with intention and purpose. He spoke, and the world came to be, the manifestation of His own intimate thoughts and sovereign plan. Simply put, nothing that God does is random! By virtue of God being the uncreated Creator, all of creation is subject to Him, whether creation itself realizes it or not.

In today's passage, the apostle Paul points us to Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the second Person in the Trinity, specifically to His authority and active role in the creation of the universe, having been present in the beginning with God and the Holy Spirit (John 1:1, Genesis 1:26). Paul informs us that Jesus is the "image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." Both by and through Jesus Christ, all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, both visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; all these things were created through Jesus and for Jesus! By virtue, all of creation, especially humanity, is subject to the authority of Jesus Christ!

Despite popular belief, we were not made for ourselves! We were not made for our own pleasure, happiness, and delight! We were created for the pleasure and delight of our Creator! We were created purposefully to fulfill His purposes in the Earth! Our entire personhood consisting of our body, soul, and spirit was created for Jesus Himself! While God has indeed blessed us with the ability to make conscious decisions that often include not living in the manner for which we were created, this does not change the purpose for which we were created! The pleasures of life may bring us temporary satisfaction and fulfillment, but we will never experience the fullness of the joy of this life until we resolve to live for whom we were created! Surrender and submit your entire self to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, who will in turn reveal to you the purposes for which He has intended to carry out in your life!
