Updated: Oct 10, 2023

In a thought-provoking sermon titled "As They Went," Pastor Brandon delivers an impactful message that highlights the significance of stepping out in faith, following God's command, and nurturing a heart filled with gratitude for the countless blessings bestowed upon us by the Lord. Drawing from the biblical account in Luke 17:11-19, let us embark on a conversational and convincing journey that highlights the remarkable encounter between Jesus and the lepers.

A Life-Altering Encounter

In Luke 17:11-19, we encounter a gripping story of ten lepers who approach Jesus for healing. These outcasts, ostracized by society due to their condition, demonstrate great faith in seeking the mercy and touch of the Savior. As they approached Jesus, He instructs them to go and show themselves to the priests. Notice that Jesus did not immediately heal them on the spot; instead, He challenged their faith by asking them to take a step of obedience and faith before experiencing their restoration.

Moving in Faith

The faith displayed by these lepers serves as a compelling lesson for us all. Their willingness to follow Jesus' command, despite not seeing immediate results, reflects the essence of moving in faith. How often do we find ourselves praying for miracles but hesitate to take the necessary steps that God requires from us? God delights in our faith and obedience, and it is through such faith that we witness His miraculous work in our lives.

The Power of Obedience

Imagine the anticipation and uncertainty the lepers must have felt as they obeyed Jesus' words and began their journey towards the priests. It was during this act of obedience that the miracle manifested. As they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. Their healing did not occur at the moment of their plea but while they were on the journey of faith and obedience.

Cultivating a Heart of Gratitude

Out of the ten lepers, only one returned to express his gratitude to Jesus. This Samaritan, overwhelmed with joy, praised God and fell at the feet of Jesus, thanking Him for his miraculous healing. Jesus took note of this and questioned the absence of the other nine. He reminded them that their faith had made them well, illustrating that gratitude is an essential aspect of a life touched by God's grace.

Applying the Message Today

The account of the lepers serves as a powerful reminder of the relevance of this message in our lives today. It calls us to examine our faith and willingness to obey God's commands even when we don't see immediate results. We learn that moving in faith requires stepping out of our comfort zones and trusting in God's plan. Furthermore, cultivating a heart of gratitude leads to a life of contentment and joy, no matter the circumstances.

"As They Went" sermon from Pastor Brandon emphasizes the importance of moving in faith according to God's command and cultivating a heart of gratitude for the abundant blessings bestowed by the Lord. The story of Jesus and the lepers in Luke 17:11-19 serves as an informative and convincing illustration of this profound message. Let us take inspiration from the faith and obedience displayed by these lepers and strive to cultivate a heart of gratitude in our journey of faith.
